About the Project

What is Rohingya Quran Project ?

The Holy Quran is the final Revelation from Allah reveled to the last messenger Mohammad (ﷺ). This Project intends to translate the Holy Quran into Arakanese Rohingya Language, the language of the world’s most persecuted Muslim minority of Arakan, Burma. The objective of this project is to translate the Holy Quran in to Rohingya language by using authentic translated version as a point of reference such as English and Urdu. Due to decades old exposure of this minority to a systematic genocide and Buddhist aggression, the Holy Quran is still unavailable in this language. This project is first of its kind to translate Words of Allah and to open up the doors of light to Rohingya people for generations to come. This paper proposes to translate the entire Holy Quran in audio and video series for multipurpose usage and easy distribution. Currently translation of The Quran in Rohingya language is unavailable therefore first half of the project will focus and dedicate a great deal of resource and effort in translating The Quran into Rohingya language. Other half of the project is Recitation, translation voiceover, audio recording, graphics and montage etc.

Who are the Rohingya?

Rohingya are the indigenous Muslim ethnic minority of Burma (Myanmar) mainly residing in Arakan (Rakhine) state. The descendants of the ancient inhabitants of Arakan, genealogically linked up with people of Dannavati, Vesali and Chandra to Indo-Arian. Four million Rohingya population are estimated around the world from which more than 2.5 million are forced to flee and live in diaspora mainly in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Indonesia and others. Rohingya were listed as ethnic group and enjoyed full right of citizenship of Burma even after the independence in 1948 from Britain. Burmese Military government introduced a new law in 1982 which delisted Rohingya from ethnic group and revoked their citizenship. Rohingya are considered the most persecuted minority in the world. They are made stateless in their own ancestral land, denied citizenship and subjected to systematic persecution for decades.

Why We Need it ?

It’s extremely sad to say that over 14th century Rohingya are deprived from understating the Holy Quran into their own language. Translating the Holy Quran, the final revelation of Allah into Rohingya is adding to new language of the world and its totally similar to available translations. Public of this nation were deprived from comprehending the divine messages directly from its source. This is an unprecedented initiative in the Rohingya history, aiming to connect the nation to the book of Allah by facilitating its translation into their mother tongue. The translation of the divinely eloquent text into a minority language seems very tough in terms of terminology and expression. So, it requires greater effort, but the team of the project has made it possible by the grace of Allah, initiating from the belief in: وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ. (And indeed, we have made the Quran easy to understand so is there anyone to seek advice from it?) Join and help us in this Noble project to make this into a realityextremely
